Still Unwritten

Fitness

Fitness, especially running, has become a big part of my life over the past six years. I know to many of you running sounds like a dreaded task but I actually quite enjoy it. Let me tell you a little bit about my interest in fitness and how it has shaped my life and kept me sane through the years.

I started exercising on a regular basis in college mostly because it was what my friends did. We would all go to the gym together and mostly hang out an elliptical machine – you girls know what I am talking about. It could hardly be considered a workout, more of a happy hour, minus the alcohol, plus a little movement.

My senior year of college was very stressful and so I started taking long walks by myself. Those walks slowly turned into very slow runs, one block at a time. Step by step and block by block my mind began to clear, I could think straight, see things I had not seen before. I felt calmer, more relaxed and so I kept doing it. Every day.

Well, I have been running for six years and have decided it’s time to step it up. And I don’t know what that means. Does that mean joining more races? Doing more training? That’s what I am here to find out and I hope you help me. I have also decided to go to the “other side” of the gym. The weights. Here you will read about my misadventures in the gym and on the running trail, my failures in training, and hopefully some successes too!
